How TikTok made me more creative as a photographer
With social media platforms like Instagram I constantly felt like my photos weren’t good enough as I would be scrolling through my Instagram feed and seeing all these amazing photos from photographers I follow.
I never felt that my photos quality stacked up to it which ultimately become a limitation I put on myself. I just fell into this creative rut where every idea I had and tried to do always felt like it fell short.
Then COVID-19 hit the world and then lockdown began to ensue. Stuck and just watching streaming shows and movies from Netflix, I felt that I should be doing more. I then began to join TikTok.
What I saw on my ForYou page was not only dancing but other photographers showing off some amazing creativity. I then began to make my own videos doing some creative and I then realized how much fun I was having.
After doing my 2nd video the ideas just kept coming to a point where I couldn’t wait to make another video.
I began rapidly gaining followers after one of my videos went viral and in 30 day have gained around 10k followers which would never happen on Instagram in such a short time I am now sitting on 12.1k followers as I am writing this blog. After a couple of videos I felt that there is more value I could give to my followers. I then Started making tutorial videos on how to take better photos with a camera and mobile phone.
I have incorporated the new found creativity into my photoshoots.
TikTok is not only a app for dancing but also an app where you can teach, give value through tutorials or just showasing your work whether you are a photographer, artist, an entrepreneur etc.
I always now find myself having an idea or just realizing how great a photograph or video this would be and I quickly make a video and post it to TIKtok.
